There are four structures of personality :(i) Type ‘A’ Personality : The individuals with this type of personality are very competitive. They are
self-critical. They are characterised by high working involvement. They are easily excited and owing
to this usually fall prey to hypertension.
(ii) Type ‘B’ Personality : Individuals with his type of personality are not competitive in nature. They
are very easy going and patient. They usually do not become angry and hostile.(iii) Type ‘C’ Personality : Individuals with this type of personality have pleasing and appealing nature.
They are unable to express their emotions, specially anger.(iv) Type ‘D’ Personality : Individuals with this type of personality usually suffer from high degree of
distress. They persistently suppress their feelings. Such individuals are usually prone to heart
ailments. Role of Sports in Developing the Personality of an individual : Sports help in developing the personality
in the following ways :(i) Physical Development : Regular participation in sports and games since childhood enhances the
physical development of an individual through capacity building and physical coordination through
the positive use of energy and the promotion of healthy bodies. Games and sports help an individual
at all levels to gain endurance, speed, strength, flexibility, coordinative abilities, good body
composition, etc.(ii) Mental Development : Sports and games provide ample opportunities for individuals to participate
in creative experiences. In fact, games and sports sharp the mind of an individual in many ways.
The mastery of various games and sports also requires the cultivation of some degree of mental and
motor coordination. Games and sports help an individual to draw conclusions from various
situations which occur in playgrounds.(iii) Social Development : Sports and games play an important role in providing the ample opportunities
for the growth and social development. Through games and sports, players of different regions
belonging to different places, religions caste come closer to one another. They adjust themselves as
per the situations. Sports and games are a better source for attaining as well as developing social
qualities like cooperation, courtesy, fair play, tolerance, sympathy, etc.
