Write in brief about any three physiological factors determining speed.

Three physiological factors which determine speed are :(i) Mobility of the Nervous System : Our muscles contract and relax and this is an involuntary action.
This twin action of contraction and relaxation happens due to excitation and inhibition of related
motor centres. Sometimes, movement of muscles happens quickly. But our nervous system is
responsible for maintaining this rapid excitation and inhibition only for short duration or we can
say for few seconds only.
(ii) Composition of muscles : Composition of muscles also influences the physiology of a person.
Contraction of muscles depends on the percentage of fast twitch fibres. Muscles having greater
percentage of fast twitch fibres contract easily and with more speed if compared to muscles having
lower percentage of fast twitch fibres.
(iii) Flexibility of Muscles : Flexibility is also an important factor. Flexibility offers less internal
resistance and muscles move to its maximum range. Flexibility also helps us in using explosive
strength to its maximum.
